Overview

SoundCheck ("we," "us," or "our") is an iOS application that helps you identify unavailable songs in your Apple Music playlists and find replacement tracks. We are committed to protecting your privacy.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using SoundCheck, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

SoundCheck collects minimal information to operate. Here is exactly what we collect and where it lives:

• Playlist scan history: A record of which playlists you have scanned, stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This never leaves your device.
• Restore history: When you create a restored playlist, we save a local record including the original playlist name, missing song titles, and any replacement song IDs. This is stored on your device only.
• Purchase state: Whether you are a Free or Pro subscriber. This is managed by Apple's StoreKit and stored locally. We do not have access to your payment information.
• App preferences: Settings such as dark/light mode preference, stored locally in UserDefaults.

We do not collect: your name, email address, Apple ID, account credentials, location data, device identifiers (beyond what Apple and Google AdMob collect for their own purposes), or the contents of your music library beyond what is temporarily processed during a scan.

Apple Music Data

SoundCheck uses Apple's MusicKit and MediaPlayer frameworks to access your Apple Music library. Before accessing your library, the app requests your explicit permission through iOS's standard permission dialog.

When you scan a playlist:

• Track titles, artist names, and availability status are read from your library to identify missing songs.
• This data is processed entirely on your device. We do not transmit your library data to our servers.
• To find replacement songs, search queries (artist name + song title) are sent to the Apple Music Catalog API. This is Apple's own service and is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.

When you create a restored playlist, SoundCheck uses MediaPlayer to write the new playlist to your device's local music library. We do not retain copies of your library contents on our servers.

Purchases & Payments

All in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit 2. SoundCheck never sees, touches, or stores your payment details — not your credit card number, billing address, or any other financial information.

When you purchase SoundCheck Pro or a single-playlist unlock:

• Payment is handled exclusively by the App Store.
• We receive only a verified transaction token confirming that a purchase occurred.
• Your subscription status is stored locally on your device and verified through Apple's transaction records.

For any billing inquiries, you must contact Apple Support directly, as we have no access to your App Store transaction history.

Advertising

Free-tier users see banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. SoundCheck Pro subscribers do not see advertisements.

Google AdMob may collect the following data on free-tier users:

• Device advertising identifier (IDFA), subject to your iOS App Tracking Transparency consent
• IP address and general location (city/region level)
• App usage data used to serve relevant advertisements
• Information about ads viewed and interactions with ads

This data collection is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. You can limit ad tracking at any time by going to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your iOS device.

We do not share any personal information with advertisers beyond what AdMob collects through its own SDK.

How We Use Information

The limited information we collect is used solely to:

• Operate the app and provide its core features (scanning playlists, finding replacements, creating restored playlists)
• Track your free-tier usage quota to enforce scan limits fairly
• Verify your purchase status to unlock Pro features
• Save your restore history locally so you can re-create playlists in the future
• Remember your app preferences (dark mode, etc.)

We do not use your information for marketing, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:

• Apple: MusicKit and MediaPlayer API calls are made to Apple's infrastructure as part of normal app operation. These are subject to Apple's privacy policy.
• Google AdMob: As described in Section 5, free users' advertising identifiers and usage data are shared with Google for ad serving purposes.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights, though given that we hold minimal data, this is unlikely to be meaningful in practice.

We have no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no marketing platform, and no data broker relationships.

Data Retention

All data SoundCheck stores lives on your device. You can delete it at any time:

• Restore history: Use the "Clear All" button in the History tab.
• All app data: Delete the SoundCheck app from your device. iOS will remove all associated UserDefaults and local data automatically.

We have no server-side data to delete because we do not store your information remotely.

Children's Privacy

SoundCheck is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app and provided personal data, please contact us at the address below and we will take appropriate steps.

Apple Music itself requires an Apple ID, which has its own age requirements enforced by Apple.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including access to, correction of, and deletion of your personal data. Because SoundCheck stores data only locally on your device, you can exercise these rights directly:

• Access & portability: All your data is on your device and under your control at all times.
• Deletion: Delete the app to remove all local data. Use in-app controls to clear history.
• Opt out of tracking: Use iOS App Tracking Transparency settings to limit AdMob's access to your advertising identifier.

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA. Contact us with any requests and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide notice through the app or through the App Store update notes.

Continued use of SoundCheck after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
